The Magic Of The Nose

What a fun place to start learning with your dog! This program is ALL about bringing out your dog’s natural ability to sniff and search things out.   With 8 years of experience under my belt for scent work, there’s nothing we can’t do!

For any “FUN” scents there is NO Evaluation needed!  Any breed can do nose work! It just depends on how much effort you want to put into and if your dog cares enough about it.

We will touch on very LIGHT Obedience during this program.  Obedience tends to be a lot easier for dog’s to be able to do then asking them to constantly have their nose turned on. Starting on obedience to early can make it to impactful for the dog to where they would rather do Obedience for treats and praise rather than the “hard” work, SCENT!

During this phase, your puppy/dog will be learning the art of imprinting, they will learn what smell they should be searching for.  We will be touching on very light OB at this point.  Teaching the dog to focus and gain engagement and confidence with you and what you’re asking them to do.  Learning marking words, box feeding and teaching your pup to target.  We also will be free shaping/capturing an alert.

Obedience

Now that your dog is understanding of the “game” and has a really good sense of what we are asking for.  We are going to start adding some more distractions, decoys, we will also be “backing” away and allowing our dogs to turn the game on themselves. We will be working on more Obedience during this time.   Learning to search with several different smells/distractions around them.

ADVANCED SCENT WORK

Once a week 1hr class

Public Searching

Distractions

Live Alerting

Advanced Obedience

During this program, we will be upping the Obedience as well as the distractions.  During this portion of training we will be meeting out in public (dog friendly places only).  We will be asking our dog to identify where the scent is as well as alert to us that they’ve found the scent.  We will be putting more Obedience on our dog’s now that we will be going out more in public.
